Tommy Charles Oliver comes on to the show as a shy, sensitive new-kid-in-town, fifteen years old, excelling
at karate but not much else.
He is chosen to be Rita's evil green ranger, and when the spell over him is broken, he is overcome with
guilt about what he did, and throughout the series still cannot forgive himself. He is reluctant at first when Jason offers
him a place on the team, but he accepts. Perhaps out of the desire to make things right more than anything else.
Tommy goes through a lot as the green ranger, many power struggles and losses, and it takes its toll on
him. he goes off on his own when confronted with problems, and seems unable to deal with the big changes in his life.
But he grows as the series goes on, and turns into a far different person, self-confident and almost out-going.
His relationship with Kimberly has more than a little credit for that, and of course his strong friendship with the always-supportive
Jason.
When Tommy's green ranger powers are finally gone, he returns as the white ranger and new leader of the
team. Not long after, the three rangers leave and are replaced with Rocky, Adam and Aisha. Tommy welcomes them, and he bonds
with them quickly, but it is never quite like the other team.
When Kimberly chooses to go to Florida to train for the Pan-Global Games, Tommy is fully supportive, though
it is obvious he doesn't want her to go. Katherine fits in well, and she has obvious feelings for Tommy, but he doesn't share
them and nothing becomes of it at first.
Tommy remains a ranger for much longer, and a lot happens in the next two seasons. . .
